Love Running & Hate Ticks?

I’d like to invite you to join me on Sunday, May 17 at the Brambleton Town Center in Ashburn for the annual 5K, family fun run, and 10K!

Since its’ inception, the Loudoun Lyme 5K, 1K and 10K has raised close to $200,000 in funding for Lyme Disease awareness and education for National Capital Lyme Disease, or NatCapLyme.   I am proud to have served every year on the Steering Committee and as a Platinum sponsor.  In addition to donating my time, I’m happy to have donated over $10,000 for Lyme awareness.

I know many of you personally suffer from this disease, while many of us know either a close friend or family member that deals with the symptoms of Lyme every day.  Although it’s an epidemic here in the United States, it’s also one of the most-unknown illnesses.  People simply don’t know the risk is there, and they underestimate the seriousness of the disease!

In addition to the 2 races and fun run, there will be a Lyme exhibition, featuring exhibitors surrounding Lyme disease awareness, prevention and treatment.   There will also be games for the kids to play and enjoy.

Please check for ticks on yourself and your family members as our weather warms up, and become well informed about the risk and prevention.

I hope to see you Sunday May 17 @ Brambleton!

McLLgRKcaWe hope you had a wonderful time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this year! There were tons of celebrations happening around the Northern Virginia area. To get in the spirit we sent our Office Manager, Nora, out to mix & mingle!

She hit up a few bars and had a blast getting to know people and snapping photos! Be sure to check out our Facebook page for all the photos from the night.

NOW is the time to SELL!

If you were considering selling your home in Northern Virginia, now is a great time to sell!

Here’s why:

  • Property values have climbed the past 4 years, but have recently leveled off
  • While pricing has leveled off, it’s still a great seller’s market
  • Avoid costly future maintenance repairs

zillowWe used Matt to handle the listing of list my Mom’s house. Since I live outside outside of the area, it was important that I utilized an agent who not only knew the market, but could also assist in finding reputable, fairly-priced, contractors to help do some required “fix-ups” before we put the house on the market. We also wanted to make sure that we had assistance in having the house professionally staged and photographed. I put together a request for proposal and sent it to 3 agents that had been recommended to me. I selected Matt and his team. Matt is extremely well-networked with many contractors in the area. We needed help with landscaping, electrical work, floor refinishing, driveway sealing, painting, etc. Matt always was able to put us in touch with, or called for us, several contractors that did quality work. Matt has a good feel for where to invest when making improvements. We followed all of his recommendations, including asking for a higher price on the home than the other agents had suggested. He held an open house that was well-attended by other agents and buyers. We had 2 offers the following day. Matt did some qualifying of the offers and came back with a recommended negotiation strategy which we accepted. He handled it from there and after some back and forth we accepted an offer. I liked working with Matt and would use him again. He’s responsive and easy to get a hold of. He knows the real estate business inside out and he applies his skills in a professional manner.

We’re happy to offer assistance with contractor referrals, recommendations on home improvements, and anything else home related. Just give us a call 703-627-2167, or shoot us an e-mail MattElliottRealty@gmail.com!

Our First Video: Paint Selection

IMG_8728Check out our FIRST EVER informational video! We (Erin & Nora) met up at the Home Depot in Reston, and Nora’s friend Brooke filmed us (with an assist from her adorable baby Hudson). We received some funny looks… and a few people wanted us to paint their homes for them. I guess we looked super official in our new bight yellow Matt Elliott Realty shirts! I could have spent all day playing with the paint swatches & reading the crazy paint color names, but we had work to do. Of course Home Depot was a little noisy – which posed a challenge – but we made it work!

Painting Tips:

  • If you plan on keeping your home forever – you can paint it any color you’d like! Go crazy with neon green, hot pink, pumpkin orange, navy blue or bright red. But if you plan on selling in a few years, you can save yourself the hassle of repainting when the time comes by choosing a neutral color.
  • Lighter colors will help make a room look larger, while darker colors will close it in and make it more cozy.
  • Always look at your paint swatches in different light, for example during the day & then again at night. Different paint colors can appear differently depending on whether they’re being seen in natural or artificial light.
  • To cover a dark wall color, use 2 coats of primer.

Keep an eye out for our next video – we’ll be sharing painting tips while we paint Nora’s living room! Complete with before & after shots. We’ll be painting it a neutral color since Nora & her husband plan on selling their place in a year or so.
